Lactation Barn
In the lactation barn, we can house 80 milking does. There are 8 pens and each pen is equipped with 10 Calan feeders. The Calan feeders are opened electronically by a transponder that the doe wears on a collar. Only the doe with the correct "key" may open her feeder and eat. Leftover feed is removed from the feeder and weighed every morning. New feed is weighed and placed in the feeder. Therefore, it is possible to calculate the exact amount of feed that each doe is consuming. Using the Calan feeders is it possible to feed varing amounts of the same ration to different does in the same pen or to feed different rations to different does in the same pen.
