Annual Field Day - Saturday, March 7, 2009

Langston University Hosts Workshop for Ornamental Fish Pond Hobbyists, Professionals, and, Commercial Aquaculturists


(Langston University, Langston, OK) - The Langston University Aquaculture Program will offer workshops for ornamental fish pond hobbyists, professionals, and commercial aquaculturists on Saturday, March 7, 2009 in the Research, Education and Extension Complex located on the main campus. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and the workshop starts at 9:10 a.m. The workshop is intended to provide educational and collaborative opportunities for enthusiasts, producers and researchers.  

The session begins with a presentation by Mr. Bill Wentroth, Fishery Supervisor, North Central Region (ODWC), on the implementation of a statewide plan to address the growing problem of Aquatic Nuisance Species which have invaded Oklahoma’s water resources.

 Additional workshop topics include:

Aquatic Insect Ecology for the Water Gardener; Native Submergent Vegetation for Filtration in Ornamental Ponds; Constructing a Temporary Ornamental Pond; How to Fleece a Buffalo and LU Aquaculture Research for 2008.

Langston University is located 12 miles east of Guthrie on OK Highway 33. Attendees will be directed to the meeting site with Aquaculture workshop signs. A lunch will be provided for $5 per person with advanced registration. Persons may register by telephone or e-mail.
